Let the gift knitting begin!

I try not to plan on making very many gifts for the holidays. I always end up missing the deadline. That being said, two of my good friends each have two daughters. The ages are 15, 16, 18, and 21. And I like to make things for the girls if I can think of something that they would like. One year I made them each felted bags and another year they all got fun fur type scarves. The scarves were worn a lot. I'm not sure how often the bags were used. But, no matter.

On to this year's gift knitting. The beginning of this week, I decided to join the Fall Cable KAL 2007 (button on side bar) because I love knitting cables. I was going to make another Irish Hiking Scarf but in looking through the free internet patterns that I have, I found the Karaoke Cable Scarf from Midnight Knitter. So I dug around in the stash and found 3 skeins of Gedifra Fashion Trend Stripes in a nice brown/cream/tan colorway and cast on for a scarf for myself.

Pretty, isn't it? And so easy to memorize, too. Then I got to thinking that this scarf would make great Christmas presents for the girls! So I put aside the scarf for me (isn't that always the way?) and cast on a new one.

I'm using some Noro Kureyon 102 that has been in my stash for a long time. I thought I make a Booga Bag out of it but that never seemed to happen. And it seems perfect for the 15 year old that I have in mind for it.

The knitting was started this past Tuesday while I was at my weekly knitting group. It's very easy to work the pattern without looking as long as I keep track of what row I'm on. The first skein of yarn is done and measured about 29". I have 4 skeins of the Noro so I should have plenty to make a nice long scarf. And she might even get a pair of fingerless gloves to match.

Now to decide what to make for the other three girls!
