Rocky the Flying Squirrel!

Can you imagine what it would feel like to see this squirrel coming flying at you? Alek and I can!! This is a picture off the internet since just as I was about to snap a picture of the flying squirrel perched atop my curtains, he leaped at me! Well, he was leaping for the computer desk but since I was standing right next to it, it looked like he was jumping at me. I screamed and ducked and Alek, who was filming the squirrel on his phone, accidently shut the phone before he could save the pictures. Right after that, the squirrel dashed out the French doors that I had opened to shoo him out.



Flying squirrels are beautiful animals. This one got in through the fireplace somehow. There's an insert in it so we're not sure how he managed to get into the house. And he's not the first flying squirrel we've had visit the fireplace. About 15 years ago, one was trapped in the insert. Scott got that one out by putting on heavy leather fireplace gloves and capturing him. We also had a little screech owl in there once. He got out and flew through the living room, leaving sooty wing prints on the ceiling.

Our visitor today actually went into the entertainment center, climbed to the top of it and launched himself at one window, went across the mantle to another window and then jumped at us. Then we went outside and watched him glide from tree to tree until he was gone. We knew something was in the fireplace because the dog was sniffing at the air grate and barking. I put her outside once I saw it in the house. Really cool and I so wish I'd snapped the picture!!

Here's a picture of the fourth and final cabled scarf I made for Christmas. I used the Karaoke Cabled Scarf pattern from Midnight Knitter again this time using Patons "Rumor" yarn. I haven't seen the recipient since before Christmas so I don't know if she liked it or not.



This is my first FO of 2008. I made Alek a ribbed hat using Patons Classic Merino wool. Simple k 1, p 1 ribbing from Knit a Dozen Beanies by American School of Needlework.



He said it fits perfectly. He let me take a picture for the blog even though he had just come downstairs that morning.



I'm sporadically working on projects lately. I want to make a baby sweater for my niece who is due any day now. And I signed up for Sock a Month KAL 5 so I need to finish a pair of socks soon. Plus I bought the yarn to make a Minimalist Cardigan from Interweave Knits Fall 2007 for Ariane and yarn to make a new scarf for Scott. And I don't seem to be accomplishing much on any of them!
